Emirates General Petroleum Corporation, known as Emarat, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Alfanar Gas Group to develop natural gas supply projects and related infrastructure for customers in the UAE, according to a report in Al Bayan.

The agreement, signed on the sidelines of ADIPEC 2026 in Abu Dhabi, sets out a framework for the two companies to identify demand in the gas market, assess customer needs and build projects to meet them. Under the arrangement, Emarat will identify opportunities and deal with customers, while the two companies will cooperate on developing and operating the infrastructure required.

The scope covers natural gas and compressed natural gas (CNG) supply, central gas systems and pipeline connections, along with other integrated services linked to those activities. The partners said they will focus on commercial customers and on gas supply for cities, handling projects from planning and design through engineering, construction, and long-term operation and maintenance.

For Emarat, best known for its fuel station network, the deal is a route to widen its gas business without building engineering and operations capacity on its own. Nabil Butti bin Butti Al Muhairi, chief executive of Emarat's natural gas operations department, said the energy needs of businesses and communities were changing in ways that created openings for more integrated gas supply and infrastructure services. He said the partnership would expand Emarat's capabilities in natural gas, CNG and related infrastructure, and that the company was focused on opportunities with lasting commercial value.

Khalid bin Saeed, chief executive of Alfanar Gas Group, said his company's experience in feasibility studies, engineering, construction, commissioning and operations complemented Emarat's supply capabilities and commercial reach.

The memorandum is not a binding contract, and neither company disclosed specific projects, locations, volumes or investment figures. Al Bayan said the agreement is part of Emarat's strategy of expanding its business through strategic partnerships.
