Gulf Cryo will begin production at its carbon capture facility in Abu Dhabi within a few weeks, the industrial gases and decarbonisation company's chief commercial officer, Georgios Peritsos, told the Emirates News Agency (WAM) at ADIPEC 2026.

The Abu Dhabi plant will add to a capture facility the company already runs in Ras Al Khaimah. Peritsos said the UAE is currently Gulf Cryo's largest market.

He did not give the new facility's capacity or investment cost in his remarks to WAM.

Capturing and Reusing Emissions

According to Peritsos, Gulf Cryo's carbon capture work collects and purifies industrial emissions and supplies the carbon dioxide to sectors such as desalination plants and food production. He said this supports a circular economy and helps industrial sites cut their emissions.

The company has been in the gases business for more than 70 years and supplies industrial and medical gases to customers in 10 countries, he said. Its customers include petrochemicals, healthcare, metals, manufacturing, shipyards and oil and gas. Peritsos said Gulf Cryo was one of the first companies to build the UAE's industrial gases market and has invested heavily there over several decades.

Local Supply After Covid

Peritsos said recent events, including the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, showed how much local manufacturing, being close to customers and reliable supply matter. He said the company keeps investing in oxygen, nitrogen and argon production because many industries depend on these gases.

This year is Gulf Cryo's fifth time exhibiting at ADIPEC. Peritsos said the company has taken part in the event's decarbonisation zone since it first opened.

Why It Matters

Carbon capture is one of the main ways Gulf energy producers and heavy industry plan to cut emissions while keeping output high, and ADNOC and others have announced large capture targets. Smaller plants like Gulf Cryo's, which sell captured carbon dioxide to users such as food and water companies rather than storing it underground, form a commercial part of that effort. A second UAE facility would make the company a bigger supplier to the country's industrial customers.
