AT&T has linked its Connected Life home security system to Gemini for Home, giving subscribers Google's AI features for summarising activity around the house and searching recorded camera footage in plain language.

AT&T describes Connected Life as the "first" home security product to integrate with Google Home Premium, according to The Verge. With the update, Gemini can describe events captured by security cameras in detail, such as who delivered a package and how many items were left. It can also answer questions about recorded video, like "What dug up the yard last night?", and users can review daily summaries of activity inside and outside the home.

The features are available only on AT&T's professional monitoring plan, which costs $29.99 a month, so the carrier is selling the AI features as part of its premium tier rather than to every Connected Life customer. AT&T is also adding the option to arm or disarm the system automatically based on how close the user is to home.

The integration runs on Google's Gemini-powered Home APIs, which let smart home brands and developers build AI features into their own devices. Security providers can use them to offer natural-language video search and event summaries without developing the underlying models themselves, and Google gets its assistant into hardware and services it does not make.

AT&T launched Connected Life last December in partnership with Google and Abode. ADT has also hinted that it will bring Gemini for Home features to its security systems, which would put Google's AI inside a second major US home security service.
