Chinese electric-vehicle maker XPENG has launched two three-row SUVs, the GX and the G9L, across the Middle East and Africa at a brand event in Dubai. It also set out plans to expand its regional network sharply by 2027 and to bring its humanoid robots and flying cars to the Gulf.

Each model is open for pre-orders in 11 countries, the company said in a statement. In the UAE, the GX Flagship Edition costs AED 299,000 and the G9L has a pre-sale starting price of AED 259,000. XPENG said the GX already has more than 4,000 confirmed orders across the region, 800 of them in the UAE, ahead of first deliveries. CnEVPost reported that no delivery dates were given.

The GX goes on sale in the UAE, Qatar, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Lebanon, Jordan and Nigeria. The G9L covers the same list except that Ghana replaces Egypt. According to CnEVPost, the Dubai event was the GX's first launch outside China. The sources disagree on the date: XPENG's statement says the event was on November 3, while CnEVPost reports November 2.

Range Extenders for Long Drives

Both SUVs are the first models to use XPENG's Kunpeng range-extender system. An electric motor drives the wheels, and an onboard generator recharges the battery when needed. XPENG quotes a combined NEDC range of up to 1,210 km, an 800V architecture, and charging from 10% to 80% in as little as 10.7 minutes where a suitable fast charger is available. The company said a GX drove 1,231 km from the UAE to Oman through the Liwa desert before the launch without recharging. CnEVPost noted that XPENG is using extended-range technology to speed up its overseas expansion. The G9L launched in Europe in October as a fully battery-electric model.

Dr. Brian Gu, XPENG's vice chairman and president, said the company wants to bring more of its physical AI capabilities to the region.

Expansion Targets

XPENG entered the UAE in October 2024 with distributor Ali & Sons. It has since added Qatar, through Almana Group, and in 2026 entered Tunisia, Bahrain, Morocco and Mauritius. It has signed new distributors in Kuwait (Auto Sales) and Oman (Mohsin Automobiles), and aims to be in all six GCC markets during 2026.

For 2027, XPENG is targeting more than 20 countries and regions in the Middle East and Africa, with over 100 sales and service outlets. It plans to bring six new models to the Middle East within the next year, launched at the same time as in China. The company said a spare-parts warehouse in Dubai can supply service centres within 24 hours.

Beyond Cars

XPENG calls itself a physical AI company and develops its own AI models and Turing AI chips. It showed its IRON humanoid robot in Dubai and is targeting the first half of 2027 for its first overseas deliveries.

XPENG expects the Middle East and Africa to be among the first overseas markets for its flying cars. In the UAE, its ARIDGE unit is working with Ras Al Khaimah on a regulatory sandbox for personal flying cars, overseen by the General Civil Aviation Authority, with a demonstration route between Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah planned. The company said it is also considering its YOYO robotaxi for the Middle East market.

Why It Matters

Overseas sales are becoming more important to XPENG. CnEVPost reported that the company delivered a record 13,326 vehicles outside China in October, up 166% on a year earlier and about a quarter of its total deliveries that month. Its total deliveries for the first ten months of 2026 were down 5.8% year on year. The Gulf rollout, and the robotics and air-mobility plans attached to it, show that the region is now central to the company's international strategy.
