LanzaTech, the US carbon recycling company, is developing a project in the region and looking for new opportunities in Abu Dhabi, its chief executive Jennifer Holmgren told the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

Speaking on the sidelines of ADIPEC 2026 in Abu Dhabi, Holmgren said the Illinois-based company had carried out a number of studies and other work in Abu Dhabi on converting municipal solid waste and other residues into useful products. She said the company was working on a project in the region and was still looking for new opportunities to cooperate with local partners. She did not give the project's location, size, partners or timeline, according to WAM's report.

LanzaTech's technology captures carbon emissions and turns them into higher-value products. Holmgren said these include sustainable aviation fuel and other green fuels. She said the company hopes to use municipal waste and other carbon sources in the region as feedstock.

Holmgren described the company's work as built on carbon efficiency: using every source of carbon rather than disposing of it. She said she wanted the world to come to see carbon as a resource that can be reused, much as attitudes to energy efficiency changed. She added that a stronger circular economy supports energy security and regional self-sufficiency in resources. It also creates new business opportunities for companies that recycle carbon and turn waste into products, she said.

She also described ADIPEC as an important global platform for the industrial sector, where companies can make contacts, share expertise and show their technologies.

The comments come as Abu Dhabi expands its work on lower-carbon fuels and carbon capture. This week Abu Dhabi's Department of Energy and Evolve Fuels agreed to study synthetic aviation fuel production. Separately, Gulf Cryo said its Abu Dhabi carbon capture plant would start production within weeks. Turning waste into fuel would give the emirate another route to sustainable aviation fuel, although LanzaTech has not announced a firm investment or signed agreement in the UAE.
