J.P. Morgan Private Bank has opened a branch in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), the bank announced on November 2. It will serve wealthy clients across the UAE and, where permitted, the wider region.

The Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) regulates the branch. Ahead of the authorisation, the bank more than tripled its Dubai-based private banking team over the past 12 months, according to Khaleej Times and Gulf News. Selim Elgen, UAE Market Head and Senior Executive Officer, and Karim Rekik, Regional Head, Middle East, lead the team.

"Over the past year, we have worked tirelessly to recruit the finest talent in the region," Elgen said, adding that "location and environment are key" to understanding clients. Rekik described the UAE and the wider Middle East as "a significant and growing opportunity" for the bank and its clients, and said the branch was about having "the right people and capabilities" in the region.

A Deepening Footprint

JP Morgan says its relationship with the UAE goes back more than 50 years. For the past 20 years it has used DIFC as its regional base for corporate and investment banking. More recently, it gained authorisation to provide asset management services through J.P. Morgan International Advisors. The new branch adds private banking to that presence.

Khaled Hobballah, the bank's Senior Country Officer for the Middle East and North Africa, said its history in the UAE had given it "a deep understanding of the market and strong confidence in its future".

Arif Amiri, Chief Executive Officer of DIFC Authority, said the move reinforced Dubai's position as a global hub for private wealth. "An institution of JP Morgan's global stature choosing to deepen its commitment to the UAE and specifically DIFC is testament to the strength of our ecosystem, international connectivity and ability to connect global institutions with opportunities across the region," he said.

A Crowded Wealth Market

JP Morgan is entering a crowded field. Gulf News noted that Julius Baer has operated in DIFC since 2004. UBS runs a Dubai wealth platform that now includes former Credit Suisse private banking business, and Pictet has turned its representative office into a full DIFC branch. Goldman Sachs expanded its International Private Bank team in Dubai in 2024. Citi Private Bank, HSBC and Emirates NBD also serve wealthy clients in the country.

Demand is growing. DIFC counted 1,408 family-related entities at the end of the first half of 2026, up 36 percent from a year earlier, according to the centre's second-quarter results cited by Gulf News. Families and family offices need banks to hold assets, manage portfolios and provide credit, which is pushing more global lenders to build teams on the ground.

For the region's investors and founders, a bigger onshore presence from the largest US bank means another option for managing private wealth locally. For Dubai, it adds weight to the emirate's push to draw global capital and the institutions that serve it.
