Fermaca, a Mexican gas and energy infrastructure group, said on Wednesday that it has become the first Nvidia Cloud Partner based in Mexico. It also unveiled an AI factory platform that will sell computing capacity to companies in Mexico and across Latin America.

The first deployment, Fermaca Digital Origins in Mexico City, will start with an Nvidia Blackwell Ultra cluster, and Nvidia's Vera Rubin systems are on the roadmap for a later phase, the company said in a press release. Taiwan's Inventec is supplying the compute systems and DDN the storage. Marcio Aguiar, Nvidia's director of enterprise for Latin America, said the AI factory will run on B300 NVL72 systems and will help companies in the region build and deploy AI using their own data.

Most advanced AI computing that Latin American companies use today sits outside the region. Fermaca's pitch is to change that by combining its natural gas supply and power generation with fibre connectivity, data centre facilities and Nvidia hardware. Nvidia Cloud Partners are regional providers that rent out Nvidia's systems, and the designation makes Fermaca the company's partner in Mexico. Fermaca said the platform supports the national development goals of Plan México, the government's economic programme.

"Our ambition runs from gas molecule to token," Fermaca's Manuel Calvillo said in the release.

The company set two separate targets. In the near term, it aims for 60 MW of total facility power supporting operational AI facilities by December 31, 2027. Its longer-term goal is up to 1 GW of IT capacity, a measure that counts computing equipment only, at Fermaca Digital City, a campus it is developing in the northern state of Durango. The release does not disclose how much Fermaca plans to invest or name any customers for the platform.

Fermaca has also started a training programme in Durango, called México Aprende IA con Fermaca y NVIDIA, which gives university teachers AI knowledge, teaching materials and practical training.

DDN co-founder Paul Bloch said Fermaca was linking industrial infrastructure with the infrastructure that will power AI. Inventec said in the release: "Today marks the beginning of a long-term partnership between Inventec and Fermaca."

The Mexico City phase is the first test of the plan. The next fixed milestone is the end of 2027, when Fermaca expects its first 60 MW of AI facilities to be in operation.
