UAE cable manufacturer Ducab has created a dedicated business unit for data centres. It said it will support the partnership announced at ADIPEC 2026 by ADNOC, G42 and OpenAI, the official news agency WAM reported.
Charles Mellagui, chief executive of the Ducab Cables Business, told WAM the new unit was set up to develop products for the data centre sector. He said Ducab would back the ADNOC, G42 and OpenAI partnership through the global agreement it signed during the exhibition, as part of its role supplying cables and infrastructure to the energy sector. WAM did not say who the agreement was signed with or give its terms.
At ADIPEC in Abu Dhabi, Ducab displayed high-voltage cables fitted with fibre-optic technology, cables made from recycled materials, and solutions for data centres and AI.
Mellagui said the relationship between energy and AI is changing. Energy has been the main driver of AI development, and AI is now expected to help expand and improve the energy sector in turn. He expects this to shape the next phase of the industry.
He said the group is developing more cables made from recycled materials and products that support clean energy and the circular economy, in line with ESG standards.
According to Mellagui, Ducab's products reach 75 countries, and the group buys more than 40 percent of its raw materials in the UAE. He said Ducab plays a strategic role in energy security and in the transition of the UAE's energy sector, particularly given current geopolitical developments. Its domestic customers include TAQA, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and ADNOC.
The move reflects how suppliers further down the chain are setting themselves up for the AI infrastructure build-out in the UAE. At ADIPEC this week, energy ministers and executives repeatedly named data centres as a growing source of power demand. For cable and grid equipment makers, large AI campuses mean new demand for high-voltage connections, power distribution and fibre links.
