Context Labs, an AI data infrastructure company that grew out of MIT research, has received a strategic equity investment from 22/x, an Abu Dhabi investment and incubation platform founded by the Al Nowais family. The two companies have also agreed to set up Context Labs' regional headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

The announcement was carried by PR Newswire under an Abu Dhabi, November 1 dateline and later reported by Jawlah. Neither company disclosed the size of the investment. Besides the equity stake and the new headquarters, the release says the two companies signed a long-term agreement covering expansion across the Middle East and North Africa, regional deployment of Context Labs' technology, applications for priority sectors, and integration with assets and ecosystems already in the region.

What Context Labs Sells

Context Labs' main product is the Context Engine, which collects fragmented operational, engineering and enterprise data and verifies it cryptographically at the source. A second product, the AI Distillery, lets companies run AI models inside their own data centres. The company also maintains a library of industry-specific ontologies covering sectors including energy, chemicals, mining, commodities trading, logistics, utilities, pharmaceuticals and financial services. Besides Abu Dhabi, it has offices in Amsterdam, Cambridge, Massachusetts and Houston.

"AI is only as good as the data underneath it, and enterprises have to be able to verify that data," Dan Harple, the company's founder, chairman and chief executive, said in the release. He described the aim as giving the region's national champions infrastructure "to own their IP, own their AI".

The Investor

22/x describes itself as an AI-native platform that works across advisory, infrastructure, investment and incubation, with a focus on applied AI and critical infrastructure. According to the release, its predecessor, Arab Development, mainly served the oil and gas industry. Yousif Al Nowais is chairman and managing director, and Ahmed Nasser Al Nowais is chief executive.

Ahmed Nasser Al Nowais said the firm's role is "to turn it into execution, not simply to introduce another AI platform". He said 22/x would link the new headquarters with sovereign compute, data and industrial partners and bring in Emirati talent from the start. According to the release, the plan is to begin with deployments in the UAE and then extend them across the GCC and MENA. No customers were named.

The announcement came during ADIPEC 2026 in Abu Dhabi, where Context Labs is exhibiting. It is the latest example of foreign AI suppliers setting up in the emirate to sell to energy and industrial groups that want AI systems running under their own control and on data they can audit.
