ALTÉRRA, the Abu Dhabi-based climate investment vehicle, has partnered with AI company Domyn to build an AI-driven climate intelligence capability that it can own and control, according to an announcement carried by the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on November 2.
WAM described Domyn as a provider of sovereign AI for regulated industries. Under the partnership, Domyn will supply the AI technology, infrastructure and analytical tools behind the platform. ALTÉRRA will contribute its investment expertise and its in-house Impact Framework. The aim is to help the fund follow how climate technologies, sectors and markets are developing, and to spot where future value and impact may emerge.
The companies said the system will be built in a dedicated environment tailored to ALTÉRRA's requirements, with governance and human oversight included from the start. Domyn's work will focus on security, governance, transparency and consistency, according to the statement. No financial terms or timeline were disclosed.
What the Companies Said
Majid Al Suwaidi, ALTÉRRA's chief executive, said AI could change how investors read markets and make decisions. "The greatest investment opportunities do not emerge everywhere at once, and recognising where value is taking shape early matters. Capital follows insight," he said, describing the partnership as a step towards a more intelligent and forward-looking investment platform.
Uljan Sharka, Domyn's founder and chief executive, said the most useful applications of AI help institutions "become AI organisations in their own right" by drawing on their own data and expertise. He said Domyn would support ALTÉRRA in building an investment intelligence capability "it can own, control and shape around its investment approach".
The statement noted that both chief executives have appeared on TIME100 lists: Al Suwaidi on TIME100 Climate in 2024 and Sharka on TIME100 AI in 2026.
Why It Matters
ALTÉRRA was launched by the UAE in December 2023 with $30 billion, making it one of the largest private climate investment vehicles, and it has since co-invested with global asset managers and banks. The Domyn deal reflects a wider pattern in Gulf finance. Large state-linked investors want AI tools for research and decision support but prefer systems they control, running in dedicated environments, over general-purpose services where their data and analysis would sit with an outside provider.
For climate investing in particular, the fund is betting that faster analysis of emerging technologies and markets will help it commit capital before opportunities are widely recognised. The statement said the partnership is part of a plan to build AI into ALTÉRRA's operating model as the fund grows, and to make its investment platform more agile and commercially competitive.
