ADNOC Gas has signed a five-year agreement to supply France's TotalEnergies with up to 1.6 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas, the Abu Dhabi company said on Tuesday. The deal was announced on the sidelines of the ADIPEC energy exhibition in Abu Dhabi.

The agreement extends a long-standing partnership. TotalEnergies is a shareholder in ADNOC Gas and a partner in the Ruwais LNG project. Neither company disclosed the value of the contract.

Gulf News calculated that if the volume is delivered evenly, it comes to about 320,000 tonnes a year, roughly 5 percent of the 6 million tonnes of annual capacity at ADNOC's Das Island LNG facility. The newspaper reported the deal as Hormuz disruption limits Gulf exports and keeps prices high.

"Global demand for LNG continues to grow, and ADNOC Gas is well positioned to capture that opportunity," said Fatema Al Nuaimi, chief executive of ADNOC Gas. She said the agreement showed "the competitiveness of our supply offering" and the company's ability to secure long-term partnerships.

Stéphane Michel, president of gas, renewables and power at TotalEnergies, pointed to ADNOC Gas's "perfect location between Europe and Asia" and said the new supply would help TotalEnergies confirm its position as one of the main LNG portfolio suppliers.

A Bigger LNG Trading Ambition

The contract is part of a new global LNG marketing and trading platform that ADNOC is building. The platform combines the LNG marketing of ADNOC Gas and the group's international investment arm XRG with the trading desk at ADNOC Trading. ADNOC Gas said on Tuesday that the platform aims to reach 47 million tonnes per annum of marketable LNG beyond 2030, which would put it among the largest LNG marketing and trading businesses in the world. Gulf News reported that the platform also gives ADNOC Gas access to LNG from sources other than its own production, so it can tailor supply to individual customers.

ADNOC Gas said it expects the planned integration of the Ruwais LNG project to increase its production capacity significantly, supporting its aim of becoming one of the world's leading LNG suppliers.

The company has kept up its capital programme this year despite what The National described as operational constraints. In August it awarded $8.2 billion in engineering, procurement and construction contracts for the second and third phases of its Rich Gas Development project: $3.9 billion for Phase 2 and $4.3 billion for Phase 3.

Market Context

LNG demand is rising in both of ADNOC's main export directions. According to the International Energy Agency's latest gas market report, cited by The National, Asia accounted for about 65 percent of global LNG imports in 2025. Europe has become a major buyer as it replaces Russian pipeline gas and manages its storage needs.

ADNOC Gas supplies about 60 percent of the UAE's sales gas needs and sells to end customers in more than 20 countries, the company said. The TotalEnergies deal is modest in volume. Its significance is that it ties a long-term partner into ADNOC's trading platform as the group tries to become one of the world's larger LNG sellers.
